Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Sunday, March 8, 2026):

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has requested the deployment of the army at fuel depots and police at filling stations to address the ongoing situation surrounding fuel oil.

BPC has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to take the necessary measures in this regard.

In a letter sent to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on Saturday, BPC Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman said that negative reports in various media outlets and on social media regarding the country’s fuel stock situation have led to increased panic buying among consumers. As a result, filling station dealers are attempting to collect larger volumes of fuel from depots than usual.

The letter also noted that some consumers are reportedly trying to purchase and store fuel beyond their actual needs in an unauthorized manner. To address the situation, BPC has already issued a press release limiting the supply of fuel to consumers from filling stations.

According to BPC, in recent days several undesirable incidents have occurred at different filling stations across the country involving disputes between customers and station staff over fuel purchases. In some places, tensions and disorder have also been reported. Ensuring security at filling stations has therefore become essential to control the situation.

In this context, BPC has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen police patrols at all filling stations across the country. The matter has also been communicated to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
